Hair Removal for Athletes
-
Is laser hair removal suitable for athletes?
Laser hair removal is suitable for athletes, whether amateur or professional. Men and women who exercise regularly are primarily looking for comfort, better hygiene, and less daily maintenance. Laser hair removal provides long-lasting hair reduction without the hassles of shaving or waxing.
-
Can you exercise while undergoing laser hair removal treatment?
It is possible to exercise during laser treatment, provided you wait a short time after each session. It is recommended that you avoid intense workouts for 24 to 48 hours to minimize friction, excessive sweating, and skin irritation on the recently treated area.
-
Which areas do athletes most commonly have treated with laser hair removal?
Among athletes, the most common areas for laser hair removal are the chest, back, legs, shoulders, underarms, and bikini line. The choice of areas depends on the sport, the level of training, and the desired level of comfort.
-
Does laser hair removal improve athletic performance?
Laser hair removal does not directly improve athletic performance, but it contributes to the athlete’s overall comfort.
Less friction, fewer micro-irritations, and better recovery can have a positive impact on the consistency and quality of training. -
What are the benefits of hair removal for athletes?
For athletes, laser hair removal offers several benefits:
-
Less irritation and ingrown hairs
-
Better hygiene and a feeling of cleanliness
-
Easier muscle recovery (massages, treatments)
-
Greater comfort and freedom in daily life
That’s why many athletes choose laser hair removal.
-
Laser Protocols
-
How long should I wait between two laser sessions?
The interval between two laser hair removal sessions is between 6 and 8 weeks. This allows the hair to be treated during a specific growth phase (the anagen phase). Treatments that are too close together or too far apart reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.
-
How many sessions are needed?
On average, a treatment course consists of6 to 8 sessions, spaced several weeks apart. The exact number depends on the area being treated, hair density, and the individual’s response to treatment. Follow-up sessions may be recommended over time.
-
What is the difference between etiquette for men and women?
With Yety Laser, we wanted to focus primarily on men, who currently account for only a small portion of laser technology users. Our goal is to make this treatment more accessible to a demographic that cares just as much about body hair as women do. Unlike our competitors, who often have unfair pricing, Yety Laser charges the same rate for everyone. As you can see, despite our focus on men, women are welcome here and receive the same treatments from our laser aesthetician.
-
Can you shave between laser sessions?
Yes, shaving is allowed—and even recommended—during the laser hair removal treatment. However, it is not recommended to remove hair by plucking, waxing, or using an electric epilator, as the laser must target the hair all the way down to the root to be effective. It is recommended that you shave the area 24 to 48 hours before your laser session.
-
Why is it important to be consistent during the laser treatment?
It is important to be consistent with your laser treatment, as this is the key to good results. Since the laser is only effective on hairs in the active growth phase, missing sessions or extending the time between sessions can significantly slow down results. A greater number of sessions will be needed to complete the treatment plan.
Laser Technology
-
What technology does Yety Laser use?
At Yety Laser, we use the latest-generation Candela Gentle Max Pro Plus laser. This laser combines an alexandrite crystal and an Nd:YAG crystal. We combine this laser with a pulsed-cold cryotherapy device (Mecotec Premium) to cool the treatment area to -32 degrees, thereby improving results and minimizing discomfort.
-
What is selective photothermolysis?
Selective photothermolysis is the scientific principle behind laser treatment: the light targets only the hair, is converted into heat, and destroys the follicle without damaging the surrounding tissue. The laser beam is not a UV beam and can be used on all parts of the body.
-
Is the Candela laser suitable for all skin types?
Yes, the Candela laser is suitable for all skin types (phototypes 1 through 6), including medium to dark skin tones, thanks to the combined use of Alexandrite and Nd:YAG wavelengths.
-
What is the difference between laser and pulsed light/diode?
The difference between laser and pulsed light (IPL/diode) is that the laser emits a precise, more powerful, and targeted wavelength, delivering more effective and long-lasting results. The laser beam from the Candela Gentle Max Pro is generated mechanically by a crystal. In an IPL/diode machine, this beam is generated by an LED lamp.
-
Is a gel applied to the skin for laser hair removal?
No gel is applied during laser hair removal sessions with our Candela laser. This is because the laser machine does not come into contact with your skin. Gels are used only with pulsed light (IPL) and diode lasers.
Laser Hair Removal and Health
-
How does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal works by targeting the melanin in the hair with a beam of light that is converted into heat and destroys the hair follicle at the root, without damaging the skin. The hair does not grow back because the bulb is no longer supplied with blood by the microvascular structures.
-
Is the laser safe for the skin?
Yes, laser treatment is safe for the skin and internal organs when performed using certified technology, appropriate settings, and a standardized protocol, as is the case at Yety Laser. The beam used is not UV light and produces only heat that targets the hair follicle without affecting other areas.
-
Does laser hair removal permanently remove hair?
The laser permanently destroys hair by disabling the hair follicle. After completing the full treatment course, regrowth is significantly reduced or even eliminated. As you age, new hair may grow (due to hormonal changes). That’s why we offer lifetime packages that include annual touch-up sessions.
-
Is the Candela laser approved?
Candela is an American company whose equipment is approved by the FDA, CE, and TGA. This technology ensures optimal safety during laser treatment.
-
What are the contraindications for laser hair removal?
There are contraindications for laser hair removal. Certain situations require a preliminary evaluation: recent sun exposure, specific medications, or skin conditions. A personalized assessment is conducted before any treatment begins to ensure safety and effectiveness. In addition, laser hair removal cannot be performed on blond, white, or red hair.
-
Can I go out in the sun before a laser treatment?
The laser targets the melanin in the hair. On tanned skin, melanin is also present on the surface: the laser can no longer distinguish between the hair and the skin, which significantly increases the risk of burns or pigmentation spots.
The rule at YETY: no sun exposure (including UV rays) on the treatment area for 4 weeks prior to the session. If you’ve recently tanned, the session will be rescheduled—not out of overzealousness, but because skin safety is non-negotiable.
Some centers are more flexible on this point. This is not YETY LASER’s approach. If exposure is unavoidable (working outdoors, playing sports, etc.): Always apply SPF 50 to the affected area, and it is recommended that you inform the practitioner before the session so you can assess the situation together.
-
Can I go out in the sun after a laser treatment?
After a session, the skin is in a recovery phase: the hair follicles have been exposed to intense heat (which is precisely the goal of the treatment), and the area becomes temporarily hypersensitive to UV rays. Sun exposure during this period increases the risk of dark or light spots, which can sometimes take a long time to fade.
The rule at YETY: no sun exposure on the treated area for 4 weeks following the session.
If sun exposure is unavoidable: apply SPF 50 to the treated area in the morning and at noon, without exception. This is not an optional precaution.
-
Why is laser hair removal recommended to prevent pilonidal cysts?
A pilonidal cyst forms primarily due to hairs in the intergluteal cleft, which become embedded in the skin as a result of friction, sweating, and sitting. By permanently destroying hair follicles, laser hair removal significantly reduces hair growth in this area and thus limits one of the main factors contributing to the development of cysts. This is why many doctors recommend it as a preventive measure, particularly after surgery to reduce the risk of recurrence. Unlike shaving, which leaves short, sharp hairs that are prone to ingrowth, laser hair removal acts at the root. Please note: Laser treatment does not treat an existing cyst—which requires medical attention—and should only be performed once the area has healed. Learn more
